A kids game for contextual learning of vocab.
In the UK we have a weird school system. In most parts of the country children move from primary to secondary school at around the age of 11 without much fuss.
However in a few areas those secondary schools are “streamed”, meaning some of them require passing an exam, known as the 11 Plus, in order to be accepted.
This results in a mad little bubble of study books, tutoring, and casual parent shaming at the school gates if you haven’t devoted your every waking moment to the 11 Plus mission.
My son struggled a bit with the verbal reasoning section, but wasn’t particularly interested in working on it. Then I discovered he was much more engaged if i made up a fun contextual sentence for the word based on something he was into. Like Minecraft.
I figured ChatGPT would be pretty good at this, so one weekend asked it to make a little study game for my son to play.
